Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team compete in the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. this week.

The team earned two consecutive final-round appearances there with a win in 2009 and runner-up in 2010.
On Wednesday, Tasca will make an appearance with the Harlem Globetrotters at the University of Florida. He and others from the NHRA Full Throttle Series will participate in a skit and jersey swap.

GAINESVILLE, FLA., March 5, 2012–The Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals is every bit the destination race. Fans arrive a week in advance to jockey for the best camp sites. At the track, the pits are always packed and teams know to leave in the morning with hours to spare to make it to the race on time. Bob Tasca III is happy to be in the middle of it all.

“It’s one of my favorite places to race in the whole country,” Tasca said.

“There’s something magical about that place for me.”

Before launching his professional racing career in 2008, Tasca recorded the quickest run ever made in an NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car in Gainesville. He won his first NHRA Full Throttle Series race there in 2009 and runnered-up a year later to fellow Ford driver Tim Wilkerson.

This year, Tasca starts his Florida trip early with an appearance with the Harlem Globetrotters, the world-renowned basketball troupe known for their remarkable ball control and overall athleticism, at the University of Florida on Wednesday. He and others from the NHRA Full Throttle Series will participate in a skit and jersey swap.
Tasca will no doubt pick up a few magic tricks before heading back to the track, where he hopes to show the competition a few skills of his own this weekend.

“We had some solid qualifying runs in Pomona and Phoenix, we just haven’t gotten anything to go our way on Sunday,” Tasca said. “When you have a car running as good as our car is running, it gives you a lot of confidence that we can get through the bad times.”
Tasca looks forward to chatting with the fans at the ropes and guests in the at-capacity Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing hospitality area.

“Gainesville is a place I feel at home at,” Tasca said. “The weather is always beautiful and the place is packed. The atmosphere is just electric. This is clearly a turning point for us, where we want to go out and run hard and show what this Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang can do.”
