Randy Chestnut and David Horton muscled their way to victory during last weekend’s Mopar Thunder at Bristol Dragway.
Chestnut earned the Super Pro victory by defeating Joseph Hartsell of Stanfield, N.C. in the final round when both drivers ran faster than their dial-ins. The East Bernstadt, Ky. native had a .022 reaction time and a 5.789 elapsed time (5.79 dial-in) at 119.92 mph on his winning run.
Hartsell hit the tree with a quicker .013 R.T. but ran further from his dial with a 6.134 E.T. (6.14 dial-in) at 113.09 mph.
Horton claimed the win in Pro after his opponent, Bristol’s John Nelson, went red in the final round by just .001. Horton left the line with a .078 R.T. and ran through the finish with a 6.526 E.T. (6.56 dial-in) at 104.90 mph.
Paul Ramey from Olive Hill, Ky. drove to the win in the Sportsman category over Rob Lawson, also of Olive Hill. Ramey had a .108 R.T. off the line and finished his run with an 11.138 E.T.
(11.07 dial-in) at 115.50 mph. Lawson left the line late with a .368 R.T. and drove hard to catch Ramey down track. In doing so, he went a bit faster than his dial-in, 10.431 E.T. with a 10.44 dial, to earn the disqualification.
Ron Hamby defeated Rodney Hargis in Slant 6 competition. Hamby of Purlear, N.C. won the race due to his .034 R.T. and 12.439 E.T. (12.38 dial-in) at 106.36 mph. Hargis used a .097 R.T. and a 13.451 E.T. (13.55 dial-in) at 95.11 mph in his runner up effort.
