Weekend Wrap Up – BLOG: Steve Foley’s National Stock Debut at ZMax

Weekend Wrap Up: I get up early Saturday morning excited and ready for racing. I get to the track, warm the car up and face off with Brian Rowe. I dial 12.34, and I drop .020 on converter after being perfect and .008 red.

I thought I let my spot get by me, and was trying to be .020, however I light it up .037. Rowe is .036 dead on five. I take 028 finish line, working from 1,000 ft on to be under my dial. My game plan was to be .020 and take less than .020. I had to take .004 or less to win. Wasn’t going to happen.

Although I suffered a defeat, I had a great time and look forward to the opportunity to do some class racing in the future. I want to thank Brad Plourd for hooking me up with the smooth sweet 66 Lucas oil Chevy II nova, Adam Davis and Todd Ewing at Huntsville Engine, and of course DragCoverage.com. I also want to thank my dad for helping me along the way and my sweet girlfriend Ashley and her family.

1:20 PM, Sept. 14 – Another wild day here at the NHRA national event in Charlotte. I show up this morning at 7:30 to tech. Tech guys lost my tech card and after about 30 minutes of searching, finally it appeared in the bottom of a box.

I get teched in, get all my creditails, and in the mean time, missed first round of stock qualifying. Second round gets called to the lanes, I roll up, never drove the car before in my life, and I’m perfect on the tree.. Yep, .000! I come back for my last qualifying run, and light it up 008 red, so in other words, I’m set up. I’m ready.

Going to drop the RPM’s a few hundreths and hit my spot. The ride is super smooth. Thats what I’ve named Plourds Lucas Oil nova. Smoothie, (Smooth for short).

I’m done for the day, simply watching now, waiting for first round tomorrow. Having a blast!

8:00AM, Sept.14 – What a crazy, busy week this has been. My good friend Brad Plourd called me Monday, wanting me to shoe his sweet 66 Lucas Oil chevy II nova in Stock this weekend at Z-max Dragway in Charlotte North Carolina. Quickly, we put together a game plan. I rolled down to Alabama picking up the ride tuesday, thanks to Adam Davis and Todd Ewing at Huntsville Engines. Then back to my girl friend Ashley Stricklands house which is only a half mile from Zmax.

So, this weekend, I’ll be making my NHRA national stock debut and today (Thursday) I looked like a chicken with its head cut off. First, I roll into the pits, get parked around 3 p.m. to find out that I lost my wallet. After driving back and forth from Ashley’s to the race track several times, I finally find it around 4:45 under the console in the truck. So, I rush to tech and guess what? You got it, I got denied. I forgot to put my stock numbers on the Nova, so they denied me, meaning I’m going to have to get up early tomorrow and get the car back to tech, then I’ll be ready! Good News is, I have the numbers and they are on the Nova.

Stay tuned to www.dragcoverage.com, for daily updates during my NHRA national stock debut.
