Auburn University
Hello racers and race fans. I hope your racing season is going well. After studying hard for an Electromagnetics II exam at Auburn University, I decided to head down to Phenix City Motorsports for their first Blower Vs Nitrous shootout for 2005. There was much "gossip" going around about Johnny Pilcher's new "COMBO." Well, I decided to find out for myself what Pilcher had up his sleeve.

For those of you who don't know, Johnny Pilcher is a very competative driver that competes in Promod Classes across the South East. He has won several Dixie Prostock competitions, several match races, several Outlaw Promod Events, and an

ADRL win at Hattiesburg dragway, earlier this year. Winning the ADRL event at Hattiesburg was no easy task for Pilcher. In the finals, he defeated Rickie Smith, a very fierce competitor in Promod.

PILCHER's NEW POWER PLANT!!
Johnny Pilcher Himself:
"It's a Chevy Hemi 737 Sonny Leonard Engine, with 3 stages of Nos. A couple of IHRA teams are looking at this combination now, but it is the first one in the world of Drag Racing. Everything is a guessing game at this point."

Pilcher and his crew are still experimenting with this new combination, which is practically a stab in the dark. During Sunday's race at Phenix City Motorsports, the team changed gears four times. Experimenting includes changing gears, transmissions, tires, nitrous, etc.

"The catch to this new combo is that you can't even talk to someone with a wedge motor, so it’s a stab in the dark. We were really impressed with it at the ADRL season opener, Hattiesburg, MS," said Pilcher during the interview. "Don't be surprised if you see a blower in this car this summer. The promod field is becoming more and more competitive each year. The Blower combos reach their horsepower progressively, as opposed to nitrous cars. My plans are to stick a blower motor in this car, and insert the Sonny Leonard Nitrous combo into my old white car. Both cars will be entered into competition my early to mid summer.
