What a fantastic weekend at Huntsville Dragway as the Outlaw Racing Street Car Association invaded George Howard's facility. If you missed this race, you missed one of Drag Racing’s most exciting events. Several racers across the country came out to participate in the ORSCA World Finals. The series started and ended right at Huntsville Dragway. The weather forecast, the days leading up to the race, predicted cool weather, so many knew that records would be broken.

Terry Robbins, Henrietta, North Carolina, was the man to beat this past weekend at Huntsville Dragway. Before the event, he led the Outlaw 10.5 Class points by a few rounds over Craig Miller and Joey Martin. Robbins proved that he was the “true” 10.5 champion Saturday by qualifying #1 with a 4.502, breaking the world record, previously set by Joe Martin, Milton, FL. On Sunday, Petty and Lynch also performed well, laying down an astonishing 4.504 with their Turbo powered mustang first round. Robbins, who smoked the tires first round of eliminations, knew that he and Lynch would face during the 2nd round of eliminations, with Lynch having lane choice. Racers and race fans that participated in this event saw the closest race ever in ORSCA history. Lynch’s 4.519 was not enough for Robbins’ 4.49 pass, being the first driver to break the 40 barrier. Robbins marched to the finals to face off against Steve Kirk Jr. but mother nature won the final round.

Although Darrin Hoyle had trouble during his first two qualifying attempts, the team came out with both guns load for the third attempt with a world record performance. The 69 camaro ran an amazing 4.84. The video of this pass is available in the video section. In the Limited Street field, Hoyle and Keith Szabo were scheduled to battle in the finals. Hoyle, behind the wheel of his 69 Camaro, and Szabo, behind the wheel
of his Mustang, were both having issues
keeping the front end down during previous rounds. Both drivers managed to make the repairs, caused by the violent wheelstands, and make it to the finals. Mother nature was also the winner of this final round competition.

The team from the popular show HORSEPOWER TV came out to capture some of the action. Joey Martin of Martin Race Cars, Milton, FL, was the star at the track this past weekend. HORSEPOWER TV did an exclusive interview on both cars, to be aired in the near future. During the interview, Martin gave detailed information on both cars and informed the crew that more information can be found here on DragCoverage. DragCoverage.com will be posting details of when the show will be aired soon. The crew also captured an inside camera recording as Joe Martin laid down a 4.69. Afterwards, the crew went on and filmed several other 4-Second Outlaw 10.5 competitors, the Outlaw Promods, and many Bumper Dragging Passes. DragCoverage.com would like to congratulate Joey Martin and Tindle Enterprises.

Although the Carolina boys dominated in the Outlaw 10.5 Class and the Limited Street Class, the locals were the last standing in Outlaw Promod, EZ Street, 6.00, and the 7.00 Class. In EZ Street, Shane Stack and Heath Bell battled for the points championship with Stack coming out on top by a hair. In the 6.00 Class, Scott Flowers has been the man to beat all year. Although the Holiday Raceway “King of the Beach” racer lost to Buddy Baggett early in the rounds, he had enough points to lock down the 6.00 Championship. Jim Knight, a Mobile Dragway Real Street Competitor, qualified #1 in the class, also running dead on 1st round. In 7.00, DragCoverage.com member “lil” Rick Pennington only needed three rounds to win the 7.00 points championship in one of the toughest classes at the event. Although 10 cars qualifying dead on 7.00, the Montgomery Motorsports Park Points Series competitor used his reaction time/top end skills to go several rounds, locking up the 7.00 points championship. In the 7.00 final, E. Bendall, Hunstville, AL, defeated Ricky Millard.
