Ricky Pennington had made plans to step up to the 6.0 Index class several months ago but the intended ride was not ready in time for this event so he borrowed Tommy Bill's Nova. Completing license passes and winning a race in the same weekend is one of those things that doesn't happen very often. Ricky qualified number 6 and waded through the 31 car field to face Hunter Olds. Heavy hitter Buddy Baggett redlight to advance Hunter to the finals and Pennington won over Kevin Hadley in his semi-final clash. In the finals Hunter himself redlight to give Pennington his first 6.0 win.

Tony Nelson was the number 1 qualifier in 7.0 but lost in round 2 to eventual winner Pete Nelson. Nelson, driving the "Dueces Wild" Chevy II, picked up his second straight win to open the season. In the finals, Pete used a .033 reaction time and a 7.003 to defeat Josh Mackey's 7.005 that was initiated by a .032 light. The true margin of victory was .001. Mackey had a bye run in the semis and Pennington survived a double breakout match with Cole Cousins.

Jeremy Noah defeated Tony Alexander in the 8.0 final.
