IHRA Spring Nationals

Budds Creek, MD -- The gray skies never cleared up, but there was double the usual number of happy faces at Maryland International Raceway [MIR] last weekend.  The latest stop on the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour was a two-race event, with Ironman trophies going to the final-round winners on Saturday and Sunday.  Rain interrupted the racing on both days, but the guys from the IHRA and MIR dried the track quickly and kept it good and tight.

The evening of April 5th at North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas started a new chapter for the Outlaw Fuel Altered Association under its new series sponsor Royal Purple Oil.  After an off season that seemed busier than most, nineteen blown fuel altereds came to fight for points, prestige and pride under a vibrant spring time Texas sky.  The large field tied the series car count record and amazingly six teams that earned points last season did not make the trip, showing just how much the circuit is growing (I hear rumors of up to four more teams in the works that will hopefully come play this season). The first event of the eight race tour is usually feast or famine as teams test new parts and performance combinations all seeking the slightest edge over the competition.  This held true in Denton.

43rd Annual Easter Sunday Funny Car Show At Eastside Speedway

Farmington, NC -- It isn’t every day that a school kid makes history.  But that’s exactly what happened on Sunday afternoon, during the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour Event, at Farmington Dragway.  Jason McCandless, driving in Jr. Dragster Beginners, became the first third-generation Ironman winner in IHRA history.  When he claimed the Ironman trophy for winning his first divisional race, Jason was following in the illustrious footsteps of his father, Herb McCandless, Jr., who is, among other things, a former Super Stock national champion, and his grandfather, Herb McCandless, Sr., a perennial winner Pro Stock, Super Modified, and Super Rod.

"The wait is finally over," says Brandno Synder who just received the new engine from Billy at Oddy's Automotive today.

"The dyno numbers were amazine. We received the engine today and we started installing the beast right away into Lil Evil's belly.  We've had good luck with this Foy Gilmore chassis, but we couldn't run any better than 4.18 with the chevy motor."

Antron Brown on Phoenix
“My outlook on Phoenix is very optimistic. From the showing that we had in Pomona, I have tremendous confidence in the ability of our team to go out there and have another good showing. We want to do well because we have the Matco Tools Expo in Orlando right after the race and we want to take them a nice gift, like a “Wally” trophy. We tested well at Phoenix last month, so we’re excited.”

On Jan. 24th 2008  Viscardi Boyz Racing entered into a contract with Jerry Haas Race Cars, Inc. to build a new state of the art Pro Mod car for Alex "Boom Boom" Viscardi.
