NHRA Mandates Testing Policy For 2009
Jan.21
GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2009) -- In an ongoing effort to assist in curtailing escalating costs associated with the operation of professional nitromethane category vehicles (Top Fuel and Funny Car), NHRA has implemented the following testing limitations for the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season.Unlimited testing for Top Fuel and Funny Car teams will be permitted until the 2009 season opener at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Feb. 5, 2009. At that point, and during the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season (Feb 5 to Nov 15), professional nitromethane teams will be limited to a maximum of four (4) one-day test sessions. This policy applies to both the team and driver. NHRA’s definition of testing includes, but is not limited to, any run or attempted run conducted at any track whatsoever, whether or not it is an NHRA track or NHRA-sanctioned track. Exhibitions, match racing, licensing attempts, and the like, are considered testing and will be subject to this testing policy. For example, participating at a two-day match race will be defined as two testing session days. Regardless of the number of runs attempted per day, each day will be defined as one testing day.

Mickey Thompson suspends NHRA sponsorship
Jan.21
Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels will not participate as a major sponsor of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) in 2009.
Ken Warner, vice president sales and marketing for Mickey Thompson says, “The tough decision to suspend our relationship with NHRA after more than 26 years is due to several concerns including a recent mandate by the NHRA that Pro Stock racers will be required to compete exclusively on Goodyear tires. “The decision to compete solely on one manufacturer's tires may ultimately diminish the level of competition in the Pro Stock series. The spirit of open competition drives this sport and by limiting the racers' choice of tires, that spirit is severely diminished. We hope the sanctioning body revisits this ruling and opens up the competition to manufacturers like Mickey Thompson who are willing to put years of technology and experience into making tires that help win races." Carl Robinson, motorsports manager, adds, “Eliminating the NHRA from our schedule will allow us to focus our attention and resources on faster growing segments of the drag racing community. The NHRA’s current vision as demonstrated by several of their recent decisions is just not in alignment with ours at this time. If things change we will revisit the opportunity. “We are not going to abandon all of our loyal customers and Team M/T Members as a result of this decision, but we must do what is best for the Mickey Thompson brand. In the current economic climate we must partner with sanctioning bodies that embrace our participation and respect our investment in the sport. Mickey Thompson will continue its ‘Big Tire Development Program’ as it has already yielded a tremendous amount of technology that we have already applied to our current product offering.” Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels are used in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class and in all Sportsman classes, including Stock Eliminator, Super Stock, Competition Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas & Super Street classes. Mickey Thompson Motorsports will continue to support these NHRA racers through their “Team M/T” program.
Sikora Racing To Raise The Bar
Jan.21
When Doug Sikora made his return to PSCA Outlaw Racing in 2008, he built what he knew best; A Ford Mustang with a Nitrous assisted Small Block Ford powerplant. About 6 months into the process, Sikora knew that with the types of cars and ET's that are starting to show up in the PSCA Outlaw class that change was necessary.. After consulting with many well known people in the racing business, Sikora decided to switch power adder combo's and install a ProCharger and Fuel Injection which was all new to this heads-up veteran. Doug will start the on track testing this upcoming weekend at the PSCA Warm-ups at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in preparation for the PSCA season opener Feb 6-8 in Phoenix, AZ.

Sikora Racing would like to give thanks to the following people and companies that helped with the transformation; Jason at Pettis Performance, Giuseppe Gentile, Job Spetter at Turbo People, Bob & Sana Remillard, Dave W. & Jim Summers at ProCharger, Lou's Performance, Brandt Racing, Roger at RacePak, Accufab Throttle Bodies and Greg at GPE.
