Results! 2008 Southern Choice Awards

The people have spoken and voting for the 1st Annual DragCoverage.com Southern Choice Awards has ended. DragCoverage.com viewers have spoken and the best of the best were chosen.

The results are below:

Pro Tree Racer of the Year
Patrick Clenney


Patrick Clenney is definitely not a new kid on the block when it comes to Heads Up Racing. Clenney edged out a list of Emerald Coast Dragway Real Street Championships, a Mobile Dragway Championship, and several event wins across the South East. There is no question why this Real Street Champion was selected as Heads Up Racer of the Year.

Sportsman Racer of the Year
Jared Pennington



Jared Pennington (JED), enough said… Pennington started racing in 1984 and has become one of the world's greatest footbrakers.

2008 Track of the Year
Emerald Coast Dragway


Chip Kooser had a vision while in competition at Atmore Dragway, during the first Dixie Promod Days of Drag Racing. That vision, now Emerald Coast Dragway, came a reality and is now a state of the art facility located on the panhandle of Florida. 

Richard and Kelly Stephens now own the facility and have several exciting events planned for 2009.

2008 Race Series of the Year
ORSCA



ORSCA (Outlaw Racing Street Car Association) features the nation’s best racers with exciting Heads Up Outlaw Racing. With the addition of the Automatic Promod Class in 2009, the organization is sure to bring exciting action to the South East.

1st RU: King of the Coast
2nd RU: Mullis Super 7 Series
3rd RU: ADRL (American Drag Racing League)



2008 Promoter of the Year
George Howard


Inducted into the NHRA Hall of Fame in 2006, George Howard has earned the title of one of the world's greatest Drag Racing promoters. NHRA Division Two Director Bill Holt traced Howard's career as a national record-setting stock driver, Pro Mod racer, car owner and race promoter.  Holt said George's biggest accomplishment might be the creation of the Million Dollar Drag Race, the biggest paying race in drag racing.
